Feeling like you’ve lost a step or two as you’ve gotten older? Are you tired more often? Having trouble keeping the weight off? Lost your drive and desire to have sex? – I did.
I desperately wanted to feel better, stronger, more focused, and energized? So I did something about it – Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) as it is also known, with Wellness, Fitness, and Nutrition Network
For quite some time I had been feeling tired. I had a very hard time gathering the motivation to go out and do anything, much less exercise. Naturally, when you have a lack of activity it leads to boredom and boredom often leads to eating, which then leads to excessive weight gain. In my case I gained close to 80 pounds!
The enormity of my situation really hit me one day at the department store. I went in to find some new jeans. As I dug out a few different styles and went into the dressing room, I tugged the first pair on and WHAM…there I was. At 5’10”, 270lbs, I was looking at having to buy 42” waist pants because 40”s were too tight. I was mortified. With all this extra weight I had zero confidence and I was definitely depressed. I was, a 37 year old guy and the mere thought of having to spend the rest of my life like this (or worse) made me feel like just giving up.
Alright, so giving up was not really an option but I had to do something.
This is the point in my story where the testosterone hormone replacement therapy comes in.
Unless you’ve been living in a cave or a third world country, you’ve heard the commercials about male menopause, low testosterone. Whether it’s Cenegenics Low T, or any of the other commercials from the pharmaceutical companies about their testosterone drug, the availability of these products is well known. I had toyed with the idea of calling one of these companies for several months but it was my frustration and…well disgust with myself that motivated me to finally DO SOMETHING. So I hit the phone and the internet.
Through my research I discovered the process was really very simple. All I needed to do was to go and have my blood drawn by a lab and wait for my test results. Tests assessed my Testosterone, Human Growth Hormone, Estrogen, and PSA levels. In my case these painted a pretty bleak but frankly, obvious picture. My free testosterone level was 180. This was the typical level for someone in their late 50s to 60s. So I most definitely had a very low level of Testosterone and at my level, it explained all the symptoms I had. The weight gain, depression, lack of motivation, low energy levels, and nonexistent sex drive were all symptomatic of a hormone disorder. Hearing my results was like hearing angels. It meant that I was not just lazy and fat but instead I had a medical problem causing me to feel and look this way. What a relief!!!
Well, now I knew what my problem was so I just needed to do something about it, easy, right? Not so fast. There was still the challenge of finding the treatment provider and the consideration of all costs I’d have to deal with.
Unfortunately I found out that insurance companies have been very slow to pick up on covering this medical condition and often those companies that do will require you to pay out of pocket and then be reimbursed. In spite of uncovering this information I decided to cross my fingers and give this route a try. Not only would my insurance company not cover the costs but my doctor refused to provide the diagnosis of low testosterone saying I was too young for this to be a problem. I was on my own.
Since then I’ve discovered that most doctors are very reluctant to diagnose someone with low testosterone because the field is still very new and many doctors are not trained or experienced in the treatment of this type of problem. So if they don’t just outright deny you have a problem, they often end up sending you to specialist. Then if after seeing a specialist, or having to visit multiple doctors, you finally do get one to agree to treat you they only want to give you enough hormone to get you into the normal range for your age. Well numerous studies have been done on these ranges and they can cover a swath of 500 – 600 ng/dl. For example, at my age (37yrs) a person is considered normal if they fall anywhere between 300 ng/dl and 900 ng/dl. I don’t know about you but I sure don’t want to waste my time and money to supplement to a normal level of 300-400 ng/dl and feel okay, when I could be feeling great at an optimal level of 600 – 800 ng/dl.
So, despite hitting a dead end with my doctor I was determined to find a successful way forward. I began contacting testosterone replacement clinics both online and by phone. In contacting the various providers I found that like anything else, the services vary greatly depending on the provider. At the top end there are providers that offer complete packages which not only include the testosterone replacement therapy but also included frequent office visits, access to a nutritionist, a personal trainer, and a myriad of other services but they charged through the nose for it too. I am not a wealthy man and I didn’t want to have to sell my first born (although there are days…) just to get the help I needed. Then on the bottom end there were clinics that used hormones of questionable quality, plant extracts, or metaphysical treatments, ya right. I don’t want to just throw my money away on garbage either. LOL
As I started weeding through the pile of information I had compiled, I realized that I was being distracted by the wide variety of options I found. I had to narrow things down to only what I really needed, what would make the biggest impact, and what will get me to my end goal of being healthy, happy, and more energized. After I boiled it all down, the reality was that all I needed was the testosterone treatment and a review of my blood test periodically to monitor my levels. All of the other things are just bells and whistles or unnecessary expenses. In addition to the expenses, the in-town clinics and doctors required that I make weekly, or bi-weekly, trips to their office for my injections. I couldn’t help but think “what a pain in the back side that would be!” I have a full time job, 2 kids with busy social schedules already and now I would have to figure out how to get to the doctor’s office every week as well. Not happening!!
Then I came across the perfect solution, Wellness, Fitness, and Nutrition Network. After a brief discussion with the representative and a review conducted by their doctor, they shipped the hormone directly out to me. They told me what dosage and frequency I needed to administer in order to reach the OPTIMUM LEVEL which is close to where they were in my late 20s…YES I SAID 20s!!! Now that sounded a lot better to me than the “normal for my age” response most untrained doctors want to use! Plus they believe in utilizing various blends of different hormones in their therapy to prevent your body from adapting to a single hormone and it losing its effectiveness.
As for cost, with options as low as $150 per month, they were by far the best choice. No paying thousands for expensive office visits every week or any of the other unnecessary services, just a good quality product and service at a reasonable cost.
How do I know the product quality is good? Well, Wellness, Fitness, and Nutrition Network is PCAB (Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board) accredited and are a CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) Center of Excellence. PCAB is an independent organization that oversees pharmacies specializing in individualized medicine. PCAB Accreditation gives patients, prescribers and payers a way to select a pharmacy that meets or exceeds United States Pharmacopeia’s high quality standards. In addition they are certified by the NABP (National Association of Boards of Pharmacy). So their hormones are safe and you can feel confident they will perform as they should.
Within the first week of administering the injections I could feel my old self coming back. My energy and mood were a hundred times better than before and I had a completely new perspective. Within the next couple weeks I found myself motivated to get back in the gym and dieting was a breeze. After just 7 months, I had dropped the extra 80lbs I was carrying around revealing a much healthier happier me! Finally, I could look at myself in the mirror and I actually like the man I saw. Now I still have some work to reach my goals but I know I can get there because of what these treatments have already done.
Today I can say without reservation, Testosterone Replacement Therapy is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I would do it again in a second. The only downside for me has been the fact that you have to continue treatment once you start. My levels were low to begin with but you should be aware that treatments like this can repress your body’s natural ability to produce these hormones, sometimes permanently. However, since mine body’s ability was already repressed, that’s a risk I am willing to take. I would equate my need to continue treatments to having type II diabetes, except you’re not likely to die if you stop your hormone treatments. Instead, you just get depressed, then unmotivated, lose your sex drive, and eventually gain weight AGAIN. Been there and done that! To me the injections are a small price to pay for the fantastic new quality of life that I now enjoy. So my plan is to keep going FULL STEAM AHEAD TO CRUSH MY GOALS!!!!
